Epirus Ambassador Profile: Florentina Hanisch, Tennis & Platform Tennis
We are very proud to introduce a new member of the Epirus Ambassador Team: Florentina Hanisch
Florentina emerged on our radar when we saw started seeing her succinct and easily digestable tips on our Instagram feed. Need to augment the power on your serve? She has some key tips. Struggling to find a tactical edge? Florentina has valuable thoughts to share.
Beyond her tennis coaching prowess, Florentina is also an elite plaform tennis player and is currently ranked number one in the United States in both Doubles and Mixed Doubles (with her husband Martin Bostrom).
Here's some more details about her versatile background:
- What is your main sport? Tennis and platform tennis.
- What is your proudest moment related to your primary sport? For tennis, being ranked number 1 in Brazil and number 3 in South America by the age of 16. For Platform Tennis, being ranked number 1 in the United States (2019).
- What are your current goals associated with your sport? In tennis, I would like to coach and help players to get better and enjoy the sport the same way I do. In Platform Tennis, my goal is to continue being number 1 in the United States and help to grow the sport.
- Who do you idolise within your sport? Gustavo Kuerten (Brazilian tennis player. We are from the same island in Brazil). He won the French open 3 times and was ranked #1 in the world in 2001.
- Which other sports do you play? Any sport that I get to use my hands. Don’t ask me to use my feet - you will find out a very uncoordinated athlete :)
- What are your favourite cross training activities? Body weight-based workouts.
- What do you do professionally? Coach tennis and platform tennis.
- How do you use your Epirus bag? I use it for work and tournaments. However, the look is so versatile that I find myself using my Epirus Borderless Backpack on a daily basis even if I’m not on the court.
- What’s the weirdest item you keep in your racket bag? If you wouldn’t know I teach tennis you would think it’s weird the amount of stickers and candy I carry in it.
- If you could change one rule in your sport, what would it be? I wish the point would be replayed when players disagree on the call. Assuming there is no referee.
- Do you have any superstitions or quirks that are part of your routine? During tournaments I keep all my water bottle wrappers. But now I’m trying to be more environment friendly and I have been carrying my own water bottle.
- What is one controversial belief you have about your sport? Male tennis players argue that Serena Williams would lose to any male pro in the top 1000 APTA. I disagree, and I would love to see another battle of the sexes tennis match!
- What's one part of your sport that you know more about than most people? The mental part of the game including strategy.
